{"id":7602,"date":"2025-10-22T09:54:30","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T09:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/manupackaging.hu\/?p=7602"},"modified":"2025-10-28T21:34:25","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T21:34:25","slug":"a-question-arrived-at-the-m-forum-laboratory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/manupackaging.hu\/en\/a-question-arrived-at-the-m-forum-laboratory\/","title":{"rendered":"A Question Arrived at the M-Forum Laboratory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A partner of ours in the bottled beverage industry reached out to our M Forum laboratory with an important question:<br><strong>Is it possible to safely reduce the thickness of stretch film used for pallet wrapping from 23 microns to 17 microns?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Objective<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The client\u2019s goal was to lower packaging costs while maintaining load stability and reducing film consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Solution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When designing a new packaging solution, several key factors must be taken into account \u2014 the same principles on which modern logistics is built. These are&nbsp;<strong>economic efficiency<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>transport safety<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>sustainable development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Improperly secured loads not only cause product loss but also pose serious risks to human life and health. Moreover, they can lead to delivery delays and unnecessary extra costs.<br>Our focus is on eliminating the root causes of these problems. That is why the client turned to us \u2014 experts with many years of experience \u2014 to verify at the&nbsp;<strong>M Forum Packaging Technology Center<\/strong>&nbsp;whether these goals could be achieved simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/manupackaging.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Manupackaging_.palackozo_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manupackaging.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Manupackaging_.palackozo_1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/manupackaging.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Manupackaging_.palackozo_1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/manupackaging.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Manupackaging_.palackozo_1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/manupackaging.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Manupackaging_.palackozo_1-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tests<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We launched a series of tests to determine whether a safe transition from 23-micron to 17-micron stretch film was feasible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the M Forum\u2019s packaging machines, we replicated the client\u2019s wrapping cycle and wrapped the pallets in the same way.<br>First, we used a high-stretch 23-micron film to test its ability to ensure proper load stability, measured with professional instruments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the&nbsp;<strong>FEF200 testing equipment<\/strong>, we conducted a&nbsp;<strong>static load stability test<\/strong>. This test shows how much stabilizing force the stretch film provides at different pallet heights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next came a&nbsp;<strong>dynamic load stability test<\/strong>, simulating emergency braking, carried out according to&nbsp;<strong>UMOS 40509 standards<\/strong>. The test was performed with the specialized&nbsp;<strong>InSlide Boomerang device<\/strong>. Here, we examined whether the thinner 17-micron film \u2014 of the same quality as before \u2014 could secure the load equally well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We wrapped the pallet under the same conditions and tested identical packaging parameters. The static measurements already showed that the thinner film, despite being of the same quality, provided reduced packaging performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A thinner film with identical parameters does not provide sufficient load stability. Stretch film breakage during transport can lead to total cargo loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, we investigated whether a thinner film with&nbsp;<strong>special performance characteristics<\/strong>&nbsp;could secure the load as effectively as the traditional 23-micron film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pallet was wrapped with a&nbsp;<strong>17-micron film featuring special properties<\/strong>, and we compared the safety profiles of the two tests: one using 23-micron and the other using the 17-micron special film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Results<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Only one variable was changed \u2014 the film itself: thinner, but with a specialized design.<br><strong>The result? Stability without compromise.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We achieved our goals!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Film consumption reduced from\u00a0<strong>461 g to 336 g<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Packaging costs decreased by\u00a0<strong>15%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Load stabilizing force increased while environmental impact decreased.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to the tests conducted in the M Forum laboratory, our client obtained data that enabled confident and responsible decisions.
